She Served

Ian Cohen with Claremont Commons in Denver

I am so excited about this project!  My love for service and jerseys has led to a project called "She Served". Why "She Served" you ask?  Well,  I decided about a year and a half ago that I want to go into the military to continue serving.  I have a deep desire to make a difference and I'd like to do for the country I love and with other like-minded people.  I play lacrosse and as I started the recruiting process I started engaging with the Naval Academy.  I have committed to their enrollment process a year and a half ago and I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity.  Last year I was working on an argument essay for my English class and I became aware of the needs of women in the military.  Many women finish serving and when they go back to civilian life they struggle.  These are people who have made our freedom possible! I was shocked by their stories.  I looked into several organizations that help female veterans and I found a place that houses only females who have served.  It's called Clarmont Commons and it is a special place.  It allows women to focus on needs other than housing so they can get back on their feet.  Volunteers of America Colorado does an incredible job helping all Veterans and they run Clermont Commons in Denver.  I hope you will join me in supporting them.  My first fundraiser is Sept. 27th.  My field Hockey team is going all out to raise money and honor female veterans in our area.  We are printing Jerseys (because we love Jerseys at SportAkid) and selling jerseys as part of the fundraiser.  We are taking sponsors who will get awesome recognition.  See the link on the SHE SERVED page of SportAKid.org for more information on becoming a sponsor.  It is going to be a very cool night. Oh, and one of my field hockey coaches served in the NAVY as well!  Coach Doc is awesome!  I am so fortunate to have coaches and players who also want to get behind this fundraiser.  Let's make a difference and honor those who have done so much for us!
